What We Do
The priority function of CACDS is to serve its members coast to coast. CACDS provides a wide range of services, including authoritative research and discussion forums on industry trends, representation of industry viewpoints to governments, and the public, and co-operative initiatives with related industry sectors -- all in the interest of enhancing the value of community pharmacy to consumers.
Some examples of our work on trade and pharmacy matters:
- Representing members' interests regarding new regulations for Class II Medical Devices, legislative renewal, environmental policies and other regulatory matters;
- Presenting to government stakeholders on the Cross Border Pharmacy issue;
- Championing pharmacy's role in e-health via participation in National Electronic Claims Standard initiative, Alberta Wellnet, Ontario Smart Systems for Health, Canada Health Infoway. Development of e-health working group to review and recommend initiatives for which CACDS should take the lead;
- Developed guidelines for implementing Central Fill and Central Processing in Canada as a solution to improve pharmacy efficiency which was endorsed by NAPRA and adopted by College of Pharmacists of British Columbia;
- Developed a framework to integrate community pharmacy into primary care in a cost effective manner using the infrastructure of pharmacy and the professional services of pharmacists working in an interdisciplinary model at the local community level;
- Scanner Price Accuracy Voluntary Code - development of a Best Practices Guide for retail members;
- Developed guidelines for manufacturers to implement on-line patient compliance programs;
- Working with government and members to effectively interpret the Privacy Legislation into business practices;
- Stewardship Ontario - developed a toolkit for members to interpret the requirements for disposing of packaging under the new regulations.
